The Australian Global Talent Visa, also known as the Global Talent Visa Independent Program, is a simplified way for highly qualified professionals to work and live permanently in Australia.
The Department of Home Affairs announced that the National Innovation visa will be available at the end of 2024.
The National Innovation Visa is replacing the the Global Talent visa (subclass 858 visa)
Target sectors of the Global Talent Visa
Australia is looking for the best talent worldwide in ten future-oriented sectors with the Global Talent Visa.
The Global Talent Visa is intended to support the innovation and technology industries in Australia.
The ten target sectors currently named are:
- Resources
- Agri-food and AgTech
- Energy
- Health Industries
- Defence, Advanced Manufacturing and Space
- Circular Economy
- DigiTech
- Infrastructure and Tourism
- Financial Services and FinTech
- Education
Requirements for the Global Talent Visa
In order to apply for the Global Talent Visa Program in Australia, individuals wishing to apply for a Global Talent Visa must, for example:
- prove their international recognition by providing evidence of outstanding performance
- still be prominent in their field
- demonstrate that they would be beneficial to Australia in their area of expertise
- nominate a recognized organization or individual in Australia as a global talent in the same field as the applicant
An exceptional track record of professional performance must be shown when applying for the Global Talent Visa. This can also include, for example, managerial positions, patents, professional awards and international publications and memberships.
Places are also available for certain doctoral students who are about to complete their dissertation and who can demonstrate their extraordinary talent and international recognition in a target industry.
